In the Bay Area, you are required by law to license your dog. Licensing your pet verifies to the government that the dog belongs to you and can certainly help if your dog gets lost.


San Francisco Pet Licensing
In San Francisco, dog licenses are mandatory and must be renewed each year. A late charge shall be assessed for failure to renew any expired license after 30 days. New residences have 30 days to acquire a San Francisco dog license before a late charge is assessed. In order to purchase a license, you must have a current rabies vaccination certificate for your dog.

San Jose Pet Licensing

San Jose requires all dogs or cats over 4 months to be licensed and vaccinated from rabies (see ). It’s a small price to pay for the safety of your pet. A tag will be mailed to you by the State, so if ever your buddy goes missing, they’ll be promptly returned to you.
